NFC Business Cards: How They Work and Who Should Use One

An NFC business card shares your contact details with a single tap: the other person holds their phone near your card and your number, website, Instagram or UPI ID opens on their screen. They don't need to install an app or type anything in. This guide explains how NFC cards work, which phones support them, and whether one makes sense for your business.
What is an NFC business card?
NFC stands for Near Field Communication — the same short-range wireless technology used for tap-to-pay on debit cards and phones. An NFC visiting card has a tiny chip and antenna sealed inside a PVC card. The chip holds a link, and when a phone comes within a few centimetres of it, the phone reads the link and opens it.
The chip has no battery and never needs charging. It draws the small amount of power it needs from the phone's own NFC field, which is why the card keeps working for years.
How does an NFC visiting card work?
- We program the chip with the link you choose — for example, a contact card that saves your details straight into their phone.
- You hand over or hold out your card.
- The other person unlocks their phone and taps it to the card (usually near the top back of the phone).
- A notification or pop-up appears, and one tap opens your contact, website or payment page.
What can an NFC card link to?
Our NFC business card can be programmed to open any of these:
- Contact card (vCard): saves your name, number, email and address directly to their contacts
- Website or online store
- Google review page — a simple way to collect more reviews from happy customers
- Instagram profile
- WhatsApp chat with your business number
- UPI ID for quick payments
Which phones can read NFC cards?
Most smartphones sold in recent years can read NFC tags:
- iPhone: iPhone XS, XR and every newer model read NFC tags automatically when the screen is on and unlocked. (Older models from iPhone 7 onwards need the NFC reader in Control Centre.)
- Android: most mid-range and premium Android phones have NFC. It must be switched on in Settings → Connected devices (the exact menu name varies by brand).
Some budget phones do not have NFC at all. That is why every card we make also has a printed QR code on the back as a backup — anyone can scan it with their camera and reach the same link.

Frequently asked questions
Does the other person need an app to read an NFC card?
No. Modern iPhones and NFC-enabled Android phones read the card with their built-in NFC reader. No app is needed on their side.
Can I change the information on my NFC card later?
Yes. Our NFC cards are reprogrammable, so you can change your number, website, review link or UPI ID later without reprinting the card.
Is an NFC card safe?
The card only shares the link you choose, and only when a phone is held within a few centimetres of it. It cannot read anything from the other person's phone, and it does not contain your bank details.
What size is an NFC business card?
Our NFC cards are the CR80 size, 8.56 × 5.4 cm — the same as a debit or ATM card — so they fit any wallet or card holder.
How many do I need to order, and how long does it take?
The minimum order is 10 cards. We program and test every card before it leaves our Neyveli studio, and they are ready in 2 working days.
