Visiting Card Size in India: Standard Dimensions, Bleed & Print Guide
By DG Team
The standard visiting card size in India is 3.5 × 2 inches (8.9 × 5.1 cm, or 88.9 × 50.8 mm). It fits every wallet, card holder and shirt pocket, and it is the size we print most at our Neyveli studio. This guide covers every measurement you need to design a card that prints cleanly the first time — in inches, centimetres, millimetres and pixels, plus bleed, safe zone and file settings.
Standard visiting card size at a glance
| Card type | Inches | Centimetres | Millimetres | Pixels at 300 DPI |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard (India / US) | 3.5 × 2 | 8.9 × 5.1 | 88.9 × 50.8 | 1050 × 600 |
| With 3 mm bleed | 3.74 × 2.24 | 9.49 × 5.68 | 94.9 × 56.8 | 1121 × 671 |
| Credit-card size (CR80) | 3.37 × 2.13 | 8.56 × 5.4 | 85.6 × 54 | 1011 × 638 |
| European standard | 3.35 × 2.17 | 8.5 × 5.5 | 85 × 55 | 1004 × 650 |
All of our paper visiting cards — standard, matte, glossy, textured, gold foil and non-tearable — are printed at the 8.9 × 5.1 cm standard size. Our NFC business card is a PVC card, so it uses the CR80 size (8.56 × 5.4 cm), the same as a debit card.
Bleed, trim and safe zone explained
Cards are printed several to a large sheet and then cut. The cutting blade can move by a millimetre or so, which is why print files need three zones:
- Bleed (3 mm on every side): extend any background colour or image 3 mm past the edge of the card. If the blade drifts, you still get colour right to the edge instead of a thin white line.
- Trim line: the final card edge — 88.9 × 50.8 mm.
- Safe zone (at least 4 mm inside the trim): keep your name, phone number, logo and QR code inside this area so nothing important is cut off.
So your document should be 94.9 × 56.8 mm in total, with all text at least 4 mm inside the trim line.
Print file checklist
- Resolution: 300 DPI. A 72 DPI image taken from a website will look blurry on paper even if it looks sharp on screen.
- Colour mode: CMYK. Bright RGB colours — especially neon greens and electric blues — cannot be reproduced exactly with printing ink and will shift slightly.
- File format: a print-ready PDF is best. High-quality JPG or PNG also works for simple designs.
- Fonts: embed or outline them, so your text does not change to a default font on our machine.
- Minimum text size: 7 pt for addresses and fine print; 9–10 pt for your phone number.
- Thin lines: keep borders and rules at least 0.25 pt thick, or they may break up when printed.
- Borders: avoid a thin border close to the edge — even a 1 mm cutting shift makes it look uneven on one side.
Setting up the size in Canva, Photoshop and Illustrator
Canva
Choose Create a design → Custom size, set the units to millimetres and enter 88.9 × 50.8. Then open File → Settings → Show print bleed and extend your background to the outer dotted line. When downloading, choose PDF Print and tick Crop marks and bleed.
Adobe Photoshop
Create a new document of 1121 × 671 pixels at 300 pixels/inch in CMYK colour mode. Add guides 35 pixels in from each edge (the trim line) and another 47 pixels further in (the safe zone).
Adobe Illustrator or CorelDRAW
Create an artboard of 88.9 × 50.8 mm and set a 3 mm bleed in the document settings. Export as PDF/X-1a with bleed included.
Don't have design software? You can simply upload your logo and details when ordering — design setup is free on all of our visiting cards, and we send you a digital proof to approve before anything is printed.
Which paper thickness should you choose?
Paper weight is measured in GSM (grams per square metre). Everyday office paper is about 70–80 GSM. A good visiting card should be much stiffer — our cards are printed on 350 GSM art board, which feels solid in the hand and does not bend in a wallet. If your card will live in a toolbox, vehicle or rainy work site, a non-tearable synthetic card lasts far longer than paper.
What to put on your visiting card
- Your name and job title
- Business name and logo
- Mobile number (and WhatsApp number, if different)
- Email address and website
- Shop or office address, with a nearby landmark
- GSTIN, if your customers need it for invoices
- A QR code linking to your Google Maps location, website or UPI ID
Use the back of the card for a list of your services, a map, or the same details in Tamil. Front-and-back printing is included at no extra charge on all of our paper cards.
Frequently asked questions
What is the size of a visiting card in cm?
The standard visiting card size in India is 8.9 × 5.1 cm (3.5 × 2 inches). Add 3 mm of bleed on each side, making the design file 9.49 × 5.68 cm.
What is the visiting card size in pixels?
At print resolution (300 DPI), a standard visiting card is 1050 × 600 pixels, or 1121 × 671 pixels including bleed.
Is a visiting card the same size as an ATM card?
Not quite. An ATM or debit card is the CR80 size, 8.56 × 5.4 cm — slightly shorter and slightly taller than a standard 8.9 × 5.1 cm visiting card. Both fit in a normal wallet.
How many visiting cards should I order?
Our minimum order is 100 cards. Most shop owners and professionals order 200–500 so they have enough for a few months; larger quantities work out cheaper per card.
How long does printing take?
Our visiting cards are ready in 2 working days after you approve the proof. You can collect them from our Neyveli studio or have them delivered anywhere in Tamil Nadu.
